New Orleans Creole Lady Folk Doll c. 1940s–1950s | Vintage Curio

A finely dressed mid-century souvenir doll wearing a layered burgundy-and-ivory polka-dot gown, cotton apron with lace trim, and a bright satin tignon tied with beads. Her costume features detailed tailoring, including gathered sleeves, a wide sash bow at the back, and a small woven basket accented with a daisy and ribbon.

The doll’s face is hand-painted with a serene expression and sleep eyes framed by hoop earrings. Beneath the skirt are linen undergarments and black molded shoes, details that reflect the craftsmanship and care common to souvenir dolls of the era.

This figure represents the romanticized and often racialized imagery circulated in American and Caribbean tourism markets during the mid-20th century. It is preserved today as a document of material culture, domestic craft, and period aesthetics.
